On June 16 the Finale of the 4rth edition of the Monaco Ocean Protection Challenge (MOPC) took place at the Oceanographic Museum.
As every year, Monaco Impact, the International University of Monaco and the Oceanographic Institute had the pleasure to organize this students’ competition. In January 2021, Prince Albert II Foundation joined as co-organizer and a start-up category was also introduced.
With every edition, the competition has been growing, and in 2021, over 100 students/young entrepreneurs registered!
The “Coup de Coeur” prize awarded by our organizers went to “Watch your Anchor”, a project meaning to develop an app allowing captains to know where to anchor so not to damage plankton.
Ittinsect, a startup producing zero ocean impact aquafeed won the “Best Business Pitch”, a prize for which the audience voted.
The winner of the Students Category was Hy-Plug, an initiative to develop hydrogen charging stations for boats in ports.
The Winner of the Startup Category, Wype, won the Monaco Impact Prize (a cheque of 5,000 euros). Wype is a British startup that tackles the (taboo) subject of wet wipes used in the toilets with its eco-friendly gel alternative.
